Contraception computers, also known as menstrual cycle monitors, can be used practically for natural family planning, as the user is alleviated of having to work out their temperature curve and evaluate the results. With these computers one only has to invest a little time every morning, during which the computer is used to measure the temperature. It then indicates, depending on the reason for using it, whether one needs to use contraception for the 24 hours thereafter (Contraception) or whether one is fertile (Fertile).
All the computers we offer are very reliable. Because of their value for money and quality customer service we recommend the Cyclotest computers by the German company UEBE, but are also happy to sell you the Lady-Comp or Baby-Comp.
Manufacturers usually offer computers for both birth control and natural family planning, depending on your wishes. The birth control computers only include those functions necessary for birth control (and are therefore cheaper). The "Baby" computers not only calculate the fertility period precisely, but can also be used for birth control and are therefore more complex.
The difference between
Cyclotest Baby (or 2 Plus) and the
Cyclotest control (or Basic) is that one can also enter the ovulation period (when the cervical mucus is at its most fertile) and measurement values of the luteinising hormone LH (taken from the urine test strips).
The difference between
Baby-Comp and
Lady-Comp is that Baby-Comp has additional functions such as the display of a possible pregnancy, a prediction programme, etc.
Measurement
The morning temperature is always measured before getting up in the morning. One missed measurement will not have an adverse effect on the reliability. During the fertile period, however, it is advisable to not have any measurement gaps. The important measurements are those taken shortly before, during and after ovulation.
When your computer indicates that you are in your infertile period, this is valid until your next measurement the following morning.
Additional Ovulation Tests
Ovulation tests detect the luteinising hormone in your urine. This allows for a better calculation of your peak fertility period. As soon as the luteinising hormone is detected, you can enter the information in some computers and calculate the conception period more precisely and effectively (see
Cyclotest "Baby" and "
2 Plus").
